Rashel & Justin’s Vintage SF Firehouse Wedding

Located in San Francisco’s Russian Hill, Firehouse 8 once served as an actual firehouse dating back to 1917 and still boasts the original pole and timeworn brick walls. When Rashel and Justin came across it, they knew immediately that they’d … Continue reading

Jillian & Ryan’s San Francisco Firehouse Wedding

JR01
When Jillian and Ryan told us that they were getting married in a historic firehouse and also renting a streetcar to transport them and their guests, we knew their wedding day would be pretty darn spectacular. The day started at the swank Galleria Park Hotel, where our couple and their loved ones got ready for their special day. There, they had an emotional first look on the rooftop garden before the streetcar whisked them and their wedding party to Lafayette Park for portraits. Also along for the rollicking ride were giant, photo-real cutouts of Jillian, Ryan, and their cat’s faces on sticks (baffled? Check out the photos below!).

As it turned out, a wedding was underway at the park when we arrived so Jillian, Ryan, and their entourage quietly jumped and ran around, mimed laughter, and otherwise enjoyed the breezy, sunny, summer day while we snapped photos of them in their wedding finery. Jillian positively glowed in her Victorian-inspired, mermaid-style gown, while her bridesmaids shimmered in champagne- and gold-colored sequins. Ryan couldn’t have been more handsome in his navy suit, mustard-hued tie, and fancy striped socks.

Before we knew it, it was time to head to Firehouse 8, a former firehouse (complete with firepole) built in 1917. We loved that both Jillian and Ryan were escorted down the narrow aisle by their parents. During the poignant yet hilarious ceremony, we learned a lot about Jillian and Ryan’s first meeting and subsequent first date (which may or may not have involved fast-food fried chicken). We learned even more about them during the reception, when many mortifying but entertaining childhood secrets were revealed and many more tears were shed. Jillian’s sister and matron of honor spoke the truth during her toast when she proclaimed that she came from a family of cryers. Indeed, we captured Jillian, her mom, sister, and even dad dabbing at their eyes throughout the day!

Given that we had ascertained their love of cake during their engagement session, we were thrilled to see three cakes on display: one that was Ryan’s favorite (burnt almond from Peters’ Bakery, San Jose), one that was Jillian’s favorite (lemon cooler from Freeport Bakery, Sacramento), and one that they both loved (chocolate ganache with sea salt from Pinkie’s Bakery, San Francisco). Topping things off, so to speak, were adorable wooden cake toppers that Jillian painted in their likeness. (They cut the chocolate ganache cake together, in case you were wondering.)

Jillian and Ryan kicked off what turned out to be a serious dance party with their choreographed, steamy first dance to Drake’s “Hold on, We’re Going Home.” The rest of the night was a sensational blur of arm-waving, hip-shaking, tush-twerking merrymaking. Thank goodness we have photos! Here are some of our favorites.
