One year ago today, and five days after the autumnal equinox, Katy and Paul tied the knot at the San Francisco Film Centre’s Palm Room. Tucked away in the Presidio, the building was erected in 1938 as Army barracks before its conversion into offices and event spaces in 1999.
We fondly recall many special moments from their wedding day: The Golden Gate Bridge peeking over nearby red-roofed buildings. Paul’s jaw dropping when he saw his bride for the first time. Katy weeping in the waiting room as she reviewed their vows before the ceremony. The tears and laughter during the ceremony, officiated by Paul’s brother. Their guests enveloping them with so much love. The unbridled exuberance on the dancefloor.
Katy and Paul did a fantastic job imbuing their wedding with a warm tropical/California vibe (you might remember their fun surf-and-turf engagement session earlier that year). She looked stunning in an ivory, full-length, beachy gown, while Paul rocked an ivory suit with huarache sandals.
Succulents worked beautifully in Katy’s bouquet and in the corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. We loved that potted succulents also served as both favors and escort cards; Katy sewed covers for the pots with colorful fabric they had purchased in Hawaii. Adding orchid “trees” and tropical plants to the long, farm-style wooden tables was another lovely touch. With the sun streaming through the windows, the Palm Room practically glowed! Paul’s collection of classic surf videos, played on a loop, was a creative accent.
As fans of vintage music, we fully appreciated the exotica tunes Paul hand-picked for cocktail hour and dinner—spun mostly on vinyl, no less! Although the night was fairly chilly, the dancefloor was so steamy guests had to escape outside to cool off.
We can’t believe it happened a year ago but are honored to have captured it all. Here’s a look back at a wonderful day.
