San Francisco’s Concordia-Argonaut is a historic private club dating back to 1864, and its understated elegance served as a lovely backdrop for Lani and Tom’s colorful wedding. Lani sported a gorgeous floor-length vintage-inspired ensemble and a birdcage veil, Tom rocked a classic black suit and striped-pink tie, and Lani’s daughter Makiko was adorable in a satiny yellow dress. Since Lani’s an artist, we weren’t surprised that she made a few things for their special day, such as a library-book ring container that incorporated a photo of their dog (who kept watch at home) and a velvety guestbook.
Before the ceremony, Makiko debated whether or not she could suppress her tears. In the end, she sobbed joyfully throughout the ceremony but somehow managed to say a few wonderful words through her tears (yes, she was the cutest thing ever!). The band Marc Capelle & The Casuals, which featured singer/songwriter Bart Davenport, also gave an impressive performance, cranking out a rousing array of songs from the 1960s to ’80s that kept our couple and guests on the dancefloor (witness Lani, Tom, and Makiko doing the robot below); Bart handled the processional (the Beatles’ “In My Life”) and the recessional (the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”) on his own. Other highlights: a bevy of young guests showing off their breakdancing prowess; Lani’s cousin Julia Harriman, a former contestant on NBC’s The Voice, and her striking voice. Now on to some of our favorite moments from the day!
