Kelsey and DJ first met in 2010 while watching the San Francisco Giants beat the Texas Rangers to win the World Series. Two years later, they got engaged outside Giants stadium, with the crowd singing “Take Me out to the Ball Game” just for them.
In honor of that milestone sporting event that brought them together, this past June Kelsey and DJ got hitched at the Verdi Club, a historic venue that’s just a few blocks from the Giants’ first stadium in San Francisco. And their theme? The Giants, naturally! They had custom baseball card invitations, Giants baseball card escort cards, and Giants table “numbers.” A grand assortment of random sports trophies (which one of the younger guests eagerly collected together for himself) rounded out the sporty theme, while navy and orange banners of papel picado (“perforated paper”), customized with their names, their wedding date, and festive phrases such as “mazel tov,” were strewn around the hall for added color.
DJ rocked a classic navy blue suit with orange embellishments and Giants cufflinks, while Kelsey was a stunning vision of Old Hollywood with her cream-colored gown, art deco–inspired jewelry, glasses, and manicure (!), and a vibrant floral headpiece. We were awed by all the thought that went into their planning, and touched by their efforts to bring their family and friends closer together. For instance, they provided a colorful who’s who chart, and made their chuppah from fabric squares contributed by their guests.
The ceremony itself evoked much laughter and tears, as did the reception. Big props to Linda Van Kassel of Simply Events for making sure everything ran smoothly. There were rousing toasts (including one in which DJ’s sister presented a book he had written at the tender age of 11 titled “If You Give a Dinosaur Some Pizza…”), an epic dance party with a conga line and breakdancing, smilebooth silliness, and tasty pie. Sometime during the festivities, Kelsey’s college radio pals even managed to whisk her away and surprise her with a special gift.
Such a fun, creative wedding for a fun, creative couple! But enough words! On to the eye candy!
